English Premier League side, West Ham United, are reportedly preparing to make a move for Nigerian midfielder, Ogenyi Onazi.
Onazi currently plays for Serie A club, Lazio, but report claims that West Ham are preparing an offer for him.
A 22-year-old midfielder, Onazi has won 25 caps for Nigeria and could pass the 100-game mark for Lazio by the summer.
Regarded for his tenacity in the centre of the park, the youngster would be a good signing for many Premier League clubs – and he has already garnered interest from one English giant.
As reported by the Mirror prior to the World Cup, in which Onazi appeared, Liverpool were targeting the midfielder, and he is quoted in the same article as expressing his desire to play for them.
“I could see myself playing for them,” he was quoted as saying. “I would jump at the chance.”
No move for Onazi came around, and he has become a peripheral figure in the Lazio team this season, only making 16 appearances in all competitions.
His lack of game time has once again increased rumours that he could be leaving the club in the summer, and the new report states that West Ham have come forward with an offer for him, with Liverpool still holding their interest.
The Hammers have slowly been rebuilding their side with a combination of both strength and skill, with Cheikhou Kouyate and Alex Song prime examples of their new regime. Onazi is very much in the same mould as the two current stars, acting as a fierce box-to-box presence, as well as a remarkably technical midfielder with a good footballing brain.
Should Onazi sign, and Song signs permanently in the summer, the Hammers will arguably have one of the best midfield units in the entire Premier League.
