The President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has said that the government has not commenced negotiation with dreaded sect, Boko Haram.
Jonathan, who spoke during his fourth Presidential Media Chat, also said his administration was making progress in the fight against corruption, with particular emphasis on the oil sector.
The President, in response to a question on if the government had commenced negotiation with Boko Haram based on the offer by the dreaded sect, said: “So far, no dialogue is going on with the government and Boko Haram.”
On corruption, which is seen as the greatest problem confronting the country, Jonathan said his administration was doing all in its power to tackle it.
He said that no administration before his had put so much into combating corruption.
He said: “The effort this government has put in in fighting corruption, I don’t think any other person has done that.”
Speaking specifically on the corruption in the oil sector as revealed by the probe of the disbursement of subsidy funds, Jonathan said the best way out was to ensure there was no money to be stolen.
Jonathan said: “If you keep money on a table where there are so many people and the money is disappearing, why not keep it in a shelve?”
In quick succession was a question from a listener via Twitter on the same issue of corruption, to which Jonathan replied: “I can assure Nigerians and the global community that this government is fighting corruption frontally.”
The President said generally, things are getting better in the country with an acclaimed improvement in power supply and increase in capacity utilization of industries.
He, however, said he did not promise to reduce poverty but to create wealth.
He said: “I never promised to reduce poverty. I promised to create wealth.”
