Players of the Super Falcons of Nigeria have refused to train at the ongoing Women Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The team is scheduled to play a third place match against the She Polopolo of Zambia at the WAFCON this weekend.
But the female national team players failed to show up for their training to protest the non-payment of some of their entitlements.
President Muhammadu Buhari had on Tuesday commended the resilience and professionalism displayed by the Super Falcons against the Moroccan female national football team in the second semifinals of the AFCON.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, stated this in a statement.
According to Adesina, the President was encouraged by the doggedness, resilience and professionalism of the girls, who despite playing with two players down before a home crowd showed their quality and class.
It was gathered on Wednesday that the female national team players failed to show up for their training to protest the non-payment of some of their entitlements.
Some of the players also confirmed that they had not received any match bonus since the AFCON qualification matches.
“We’ve not been paid for the last WAFCON qualifiers,” one of the players told sports journalist, Ojora Babatunde, on Tuesday.
The President of the Nigerian Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick has not responded to this development.
