Wada’s entry into Kogi Government House an act of brigandage, says acting governor

 The acting Governor of Kogi State, Rt. Hon. Abdullai Bello, has described the entry into Government House, Lokoja, Kogi State by the winner of last month’s gubernatorial election in the state on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, Captain Idris Wada, as an act of brigandage.

Bello, in a statement he personally signed, said that it was shocking that Wada entered into the Government House with the assistance of over 400 military and policemen.

He said this could not have been done without the assistance of the government at the centre.

The statement reds in full: “The attention of the State Government has been drawn to the unlawful entry and occupation of the State Government House by one Mr. Idris Wada and Yomi Awoniyi with the aid of some young men dressed in military apparels and police uniforms.

“Government considers this act of brigandage, criminal trespass, impersonation and second phase of a calculated plot to destabilize the state along ethnic lines as unbecoming of a set of people who seek to lead the people of our dear state.

“Furthermore, Government wish to state, that, the Acting Governor was administered with the Oath of Office by the Chief Judge of Kogi State on 27/01/2012, in line with the letters of the Constitution.

“Government wish to assure the people of Kogi State that the Acting Governor will not submit himself to any act that will be deemed to be an affront on the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“The Kogi State Government is at a loss as to what stimulated the level of desperation and resort to self-help that will make anyone deploy such troop to the streets of Lokoja without my knowledge as the Chief Security Officer of the state.

“Government is shocked as to how an ordinary citizen will be smuggled into the Kogi State Government House with the assistance of over 400 combined team of in Police and the Military uniforms without the support of the Government at the centre.

“Government considers this is a strange form of democracy where the leadership of the country will watch desperate Nigerians force the Judiciary into subservience.

“Government by this statement, directs all security agencies to be on the alert and deal with persons or groups that are bent on fomenting trouble in the state.”
