Videos have emerged of the moments after Senator Dino Melaye jumped off a moving police vehicle in which he was being taken from Abuja to Lokoja in Kogi State.
The incident, which happened on Tuesday, was described by the police as a premeditated attack by hoodlums on the police to prevent Melaye from being arraigned on allegations of gun running.
Melaye, who was taken to Zankili Hospital in Abuja, has been moved to the National Hospital, also in the FCT, with handcuffs now on him.
As at press time on Wednesday, the Senate was debating his issue at plenary.
A Senate delegation prevented from seeing him on Wednesday.
Senator Samuel Anyanwu said an attempt on Tuesday to see Melaye was stopped by the police.
