A former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, was on Sunday booed as he made to enter Emmanuel Church Cathedral in Ado-Ekiti for the wedding ceremony of Princess Adetutu, the daughter of the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adeyemo Adejugbe Aladesanmi III.
But in a swift reaction, Fayose’s Peoples Democratic Party accused the All Progressives Congress-led Government of Dr. Kayode Fayemi, of being the sponsor of the attack.
Those who attacked Fayose had chased and booed him as he arrived at the church.
They did this as he alighted from his vehicle.
Reacting to the development, the spokesman of the PDP in the state, Adebayo Jackson, said the target of the APC-led government in the state was to assassinate Fayose.
The statement said those who attacked Fayose were identifiable members of the APC, adding that the initial attack was to have been carried out as the former governor entered into the town on Thursday.
The party said the attack failed because the former governor came in a car not known to the miscreants who had laid ambush along Ikere Ekiti Road.
According to the party, the motive of the government was principally to assassinate Fayose because of his strong opposition to the anti-people policies of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The party said the APC government in Ekiti State had never hidden its intention to kill Fayose because they believe that as long as he is in Ekiti, there is no way Buhari will win the 2019 election.
“We want to say categorically there is no any form of intimidation that can swing opinion against the popularity of the former governor of Ekiti State,” the party added in the statement.
