The representative of Kogi West Senatorial District, Senator Dino Melaye, has criticised the national honour of Grand Commander of the Federal Republic to be bestowed on the late Bashorun Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola.
Melaye said this during the Senate plenary on Thursday when the issue of the post-humous award announced by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday for Abiola came up for discussion.
Quoting from the relevant Acts on national honours, he said since Abiola had died, he can no longer be considered a Nigerian.
Amid shouts of disapproval by his colleagues, Melaye said the only was Abiola can be posthumously honoured is for the Act to be amended by the National Assembly.
