Norbert Okolie, the Media Officer of Rangers International Football Club of Enugu, says the club’s victory over hosts Heartland FC on Sunday will boost the team ahead of other matches.
Rangers had lost their first two matches of the season against Akwa United and Lobi Stars, but they redeemed their image in Owerri with a hard-fought 1-0 victory.
Bright Silas struck the game’s lone goal in the 10th minute, with Heartland FC fluffing the chance to level from the penalty kick spot later in the first half.
Okolie told the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday in Enugu that Rangers were able to get the victory because they prepared well for the week three match.
He said: “It was a really good result we have been working at achieving since the start of the season.
“After two losses in a row, the players were like losing hope. But we thank God for the club’s psychologist who was always psyching the players up.
“It was then our total resolve to come all out against Heartland, and we thank God we were able to defend the 1-0 lead for the remaining 80 minutes.
“Now, we have a boost. The result will make all of us look forward with eagerness and optimism, and we are sure it has sparked off a new beginning for us.’’
NAN reports that Rangers will on Wednesday host Katsina United in Enugu in their next match in the 2017/2018 Nigeria Professional Football League.
