Victor Ochei wheelchair basketball tourney to gulp N30m

This year’s edition of Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei-sponsored wheelchair basketball tournament will gulp N30 million, the organisers have revealed.
The third edition of the tournament, which is slated to hold between February 18 and 22, 2014 at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, will feature six countries and 20 others teams from states across the country.
Speaking at a press parley to herald this year’s edition of the tournament in Lagos on Monday, the President of the Nigeria Wheelchair Basketball Federation, Comrade Bukola Olopade, stated that various initiatives are in place to make the competition a memorable one.
Olopade’s words: “We must appreciate our grand patron Hon. Victor Ochei for identifying with the development of Wheelchair basketball in the country. He has been wonderful to us and he deserves all the accolades for taking this game to the next level.
“Wheelchair basketball is private initiative driven. So we must commend our friends who have encouraged these athletes in their little ways.
“Let me also assure you that this year’s edition of the tournament will surpass the previous ones as we have lined up several activities to make it a bumper one.
“Apart from prize monies and other logistics put in place, the hip hop star, Olamide, will grace the closing ceremony, just as we are still in talk with Omawunmi to also be part of the show.”
Some of the countries that have indicated their interest in the competition are Cameroon, Ghana, Benin Republic and South Africa, while the winner will carte home $12,000.
