The national leadership of the All Progressives Grand Alliance has hailed the Nigerian judiciary over the handling of the crisis in the party with adherence to rule of law.
The party on Friday in Awka, Anambra State expressed in a statement by Ifeatu Obi-Okoye, its National Publicity Secretary, strong belief in the judiciary as the most critical institution for the sustenance of true democracy.
The statement said: “We applaud the judgment of the Court of Appeal for setting aside the spurious judgment of the High of Enugu State, obtained by deceit and fraudulent manipulation of the judicial process by Martin Agbaso and his cohorts.
“We commend the forthrightness of the Panel of Judges of the Court Appeal, Enugu, who described the judgment of Hon. Justice A.R. Ozoemena of the Enugu High Court as a travesty of justice and an unmitigated violation of Dr Victor 0ye’s right to fair hearing.
“We remain grateful to the judiciary for courage and the fortitude exhibited by the Court of Appeal in setting aside the order of Mandamus illicitly gifted to Martin Agbaso by the High Court of Enugu State.
“On behalf of the National Chairman, Dr Victor 0ye, and all members of National Working Committee of our great party, we wish to commend the discipline, steadfastness and exemplary commitment and restraint exhibited by APGA members and supporters even in the face of provocation by enemies of true democracy.”
The party called on its faithful to be focused and mobilise support for the party and Governor Willie Obiano ahead of the November 18 election.
It stated: “The national leadership of the party therefore enjoin party members that the time has now come for all to focus on the Governorship Election coming up on the 18th of November, 2017 with vigour and dexterity.
“The party is very grateful for all the prayers and support it received and therefore enjoins all party faithful to continue praying for the party’s success.”
It will be recalled that the Appeal Court in Enugu set aside the Order of Mandamus obtained by Agbaso and affirmed Oye as the authentic chairman of the party.
