The National Rescue Movement on Saturday elected Usman Alhaji as the party’s candidate for the 2019 presidential election.
Alhaji, who was elected at the party’s convention held in Abuja, emerged as the presidential flag bearer with a pledge to enhance food security and employment for youths.
He said: “It is no longer a waiting game for our generation but a golden, God-sent opportunity to muster the courage of our conviction and take over every platform.
“We youths need to arise to an informed, intelligent, inspired and incorrigible service to the fatherland within the democratic structures as a matter of right.”
Alhaji also promised to transform Nigeria with a five-point rescue plan of power, energy and industrial revolution.
He also pledged to tackle unemployment and food scarcity.
The News agency of Nigeria reports that the 48-year-old Usman Alhaji was born in Makurdi, Benue, but he is an indigene of Kebbi.|
He is a graduate of Library and Information Science from the University of Maiduguri and a professional educationist.
Alhaji had served in many places among which is the National Library of Nigeria where he served as Head of Digitisation and Digital Collection.
He also served as member representing National Library at the National Information Technology Development Agency stakeholders’ interactive forum and member, National Library of Nigeria Information and Commutation Technology Committee.
The National Chairman of the party, Senator Saidu Dansadau, said that the party picked Alhaji as its candidate because it was time for youths to rule.
Dansadau said that the party was practising an inclusive system to encourage youths, women and persons with disabilities to vie for elective offices.
He said that the party was anchored on Justice and Fair Play.
The national chairman said that the party had four women governorship candidates and urged Nigerians, especially women, to support them to win for a better Nigeria.
He also urged Nigerians to vote for the party in 2019 to enable it to turn around the country for the benefit of all.
