A Nigerian United States of America-based businessman with American citizenship, Samuel Olatunbosun, has lost about N200,000 to fraudulent staff of a hotel in Lagos State.
Olatunbosun, in compliance with the regulations of hotels, had left N150,000 and $200 with Sikiru Salami, a staff of Batown Hotel, Olufemi Ojo Street, off Akowonjo Road, Egbeda, Alimosho area of Lagos State for safe keeping.
Salami is Batown Hotel’s accountant.
Olatunbosun left the money in Salami’s care on April 4, 2013.
He also deposited his American international passport with the Hotel Manager, who was simply identified as Nelson.
However, when Olatubosun requested for the money on April 5, 2013, it could not be returned to him.
After five days of waiting for the refund of the money, Olatunbosun became angry and reported the matter to the police.
It was at this point that his international passport was returned to him without the money.
The reason given for the failure to promptly return Olatunbosun’s properties was that Nelson was not on duty while Salami was ill.
By the time Nelson and Salami eventually showed up, they were arrested by officers and men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.
They were only able to cough out N30,000 out of the money in their custody.
Olatunbosun told The Eagle Online: “I’m ready to let go once they refund my money.
“I even talked to the hotel owner, Chief Sam, who said I have to sign a bond for him to refund my money, which is unreasonable to the case at hand.”
When contacted, Sam did not offer any explanation for what his staff did.
He, however, said he had no issues with The Eagle Online publishing the story.
