Acting Dean, Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences, University of Ilorin, Dr Rasheed Jimoh, has announced measures by the university towards curbing the activities of computer hackers.
He told newsmen on Monday in Ilorin that the university authority has mapped out strategies to provide members of the university community with effective internet services that will be difficult to penetrate by hackers.
Also, the president of the university’s Students Union Government, David Shobowale, said the union will on Wednesday, February 7, introduce a mobile application to enhance academics in the university.
Shobowale said: “The application will help keep students informed of lectures, assignments, class re-schedules, and other information.
“The app will greatly help in enhancing academic performance.”
Meanwhile, Jimoh disclosed that the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sulyman Abdulkareem, has constituted a high-powered committee tasked with the responsibility of strengthening the internet security of the university.
The responsibility of the committee also included the enhancement of teaching and learning in the university.
The Dean, speaking on behalf of the committee, said he was optimistic that the committee members would justify the confidence reposed in them by the university management.
According to him, the composition of the committee members is not only very apt but also putting round pegs in round holes, considering the experience and exposure of the members.
He also assured members of the university community of effective and efficient internet services that could neither be hacked nor penetrated.
