The Vice-Chancellor, University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Obi has re-affirmed that training is a vital tool to ensure an effective and productive workforce.
Prof. Obi said this at a one-day workshop organised for lecturers by the Centre for Teaching and Learning Excellence (CTLE) held at the university’s Senate Chamber on Monday.
The VC was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Prof. Angela Oyo-Ita.
Obi restated that training and re-training of staff permits upgrading of knowledge, making them to be well-equipped with the requisite skills for teaching.
“We have not had this orientation for some time now which has created some deficiency in productivity.
“The training will enable us to know what is expected of us as lecturers and productivity will be enhanced.
“The training will further inculcate knowledge on the lecturers, who will in turn transfer same to the students,’’ she said.
Obi commended the centre for the initiative and urged it not to relent in building the capacity of staff by holding periodic trainings.
The CTLE Director Prof. Mbe Nja, in his remarks, said that the training was organised to provide the lecturers with concise and accurate information about the teaching profession to prepare them for the task ahead.
Nja also commended members of staff in the directorate for their sacrifice and contributions toward the success of the workshop.
