Supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ebonyi State have been urged never to lose sleep over the “vituperations of frustration” by the opposition All Progressives Congress gubernatorial candidate, Sonni Ogbuorji, but rather focus on stamping the authority of the party in the forthcoming elections.
The advice was given by the PDP governorship candidate and Governor of the State, Chief David Umahi, on Wednesday at Isiaka, the headquarters of Ivo Local Government Area, during the flag off of his campaigns for Ebonyi South Senatorial District.
Umahi, who maintained that the APC candidate lacks the capacity to stand against him in elections, added that Ogbuorji’s eight-year sojourn in the Nigerian Senate was without any benefit to the State.
According to the Governor, there was no basis for comparison between him and the APC candidate, whom he alleged, has never won any election and was not capable of winning one.
Umahi, who further maintained that he would probe all the projects handled by Senator Ogbuorji across the senatorial zone, vowed that he would make him account for every allegedly embezzled kobo from the project funds.
Umahi, however advised his supporters against all forms of violence and appealed to them never to destroy campaign materials of the opposition in the State.
He said the PDP was now poised to fill the gaps of poor representation created by the likes of Ogbuorji in the National Assembly and urged the people to ensure landslide victory for all PDP candidates.
Umahi said: “We are just going round to warn those that believe they can rig the election.
“You know, I don’t waste my time on Ogbuorji.
“I know his capacity.
“You know, this man they call Ogbuorji never won any election
“He was a baggage on us and so we thank God now that he is on the other side.
“But I want to tell you, don’t waste your time on him.
“Comparing him and myself standing here is like comparing light with darkness.
“We have no match….
“I want him to come and debate with one of House of Assembly candidates.
“That is his qualification.
“So I won’t waste my time on him.
“I am a divine project and the man’s brain cannot be compared with this brain that is here.
“Who was he before we pushed him into position in politics?
“I am going to probe all the Federal Government roads that he handled, which have all failed, and every kobo embezzled in those projects, including the street lights, he will vomit it.
“I want to advice you: Do not tear anybody’s poster.
“Do not tear anybody’s billboard and do not attack anybody.”
Delivering his goodwill message, the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, described Governor Umahi as a worthy product who has put Ebonyi State on the front burner of development.
Anyim, an indigene of the area, who was Nigeria’s Senate President and Senator who represented Ebonyi South Senatorial District between 1999 and 2003, noted that Umahi’s team for the various elective positions was a pointer to the fact that he meant well for the State.
He urged the the people to properly secure their voter cards to return all PDP candidates during the elections.
Others who delivered goodwill messages, including the State PDP Chairman, Onyekachi Nwebonyi, and the Director General of Divine Mandate Organisation, Engr. Fidelis Nwankwo, urged supporters not to undermine the State by voting any other party than PDP.
Nwankwo said: “A vote for APC is a vote for poverty, but a vote for Umahi and the PDP is a vote for prosperity.”
The event witnessed the handover of keys of 52 Toyota Sienna Buses donated by Governor Umahi to benefiting Cooperative Societies across the State.
It also featured the official flag-off of N10 million community projects in the senatorial district.
