Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State on Thursday expressed sadness over the death of Ben Obi, the founding Editor of Insider Weekly magazine.
The governor described Obi as one of the crusaders for the current democratic experiment in Nigeria.
Uduaghan expressed his sympathy in a statement issued in Asaba by his Press Secretary, Felix Ofou.
The governor said Obi’s sacrifice, as a journalist and activist during the military era, would not be forgotten.
He said: “The country shall not particularly forget the sacrifices made by Obi and other journalists.
“They risked their lives to speak the truth, displayed exceptional courage and openly challenged the military junta that seeks to perpetrate itself in office.
“They are some of the true defenders of Nigeria’s democracy.”
Uduaghan also expressed deep condolence with the management and staff of the magazine, the journalism profession and all lovers of democracy for the death of Obi.
