Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State has expressed deep condolences with the people of Ekiti State on the sudden death of the Deputy Governor of the state, Funmilayo Olayinka.
Uduaghan also commiserated with the Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, whom he noted must have been greatly affected by the death of his deputy.
In a statement by Felix Ofou, his Press Secretary, the Delta State governor praised the courage and strength of the late deputy governor in the battle against cancer, adding that she worked tirelessly to please everyone until a few weeks ago when it was announced that she was proceeding on medical leave.
He noted: “Not once did she betray signs of being sick.
“May be a few persons were aware of her health status.
“All we saw was a courageous and strong woman willing to please everyone.”
Governor Uduaghan described the late deputy governor as a calm, gentle, easy going person, who identified and keyed into the projects of Fayemi for Ekiti State.
He particularly praised the woman for dumping a lucrative banking job to join Fayemi as deputy and waiting patiently for the courts to declare them victorious at the polls.
The Delta State helmsman prayed God to give the late deputy governor’s husband and family, Ekiti State and Fayemi the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss.
The Kwara State Governor, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed, has also condoled with Fayemi, the Government and people of Ekiti State on the death of Olayinka.
Ahmed, in the message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Alhaji Abdulwahab Oba, described the passage of Olayinka as a national loss as she died at a young age with a lot of ideas, zeal and vision that could help in shaping a better Ekiti State and the building of a virile Nigeria.
Ahmed urged Fayemi, the family of the late deputy governor and the people of Ekiti State to take solace in the fact that Olayinka ran a good race in life by contributing her quota to the entrenchment of democracy in Ekiti State and Nigeria at large through her participation in politics and her steadfast in the long judicial struggle that culminated in the inauguration of Fayemi and herself as governor and deputy governor of Ekiti State.
