Manchester City are through to the Champions League semi-finals for only the second time in their history after Riyad Mahrez’s penalty and Phil Foden’s strike sealed a 4-2 aggregate triumph over Borussia Dortmund.
Leading 2-1 from the first leg at the Etihad, City were in danger of a fourth successive quarter-final exit when Jude Bellingham’s first Champions League goal put the German side ahead on away goals.
However, Mahrez converted from 12 yards shortly after half-time, before Foden’s second goal of the tie with a quarter-of-an-hour to play made it 2-1 on the night and put the City’s progression beyond doubt.
The result means Pep Guardiola has finally guided City into the last four of Europe’s premier club competition, where they will meet PSG, who knocked out holders Bayern Munich on Tuesday.
Having rotated heavily for the weekend defeat to Leeds, Guardiola returned to the bulk of the side which had started the first leg, Oleksandr Zinchenko replacing Joao Cancelo in the only change as the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan returned.
