A brace from Rasheedat Ajibade and Lilian Tule were all the Super Falconets needed to hand their Tanzanian opponents 3-0 defeat in the first leg of the FIFA U-20 World Cup qualifier in Benin, Edo State on Saturday.
Tule shot Nigeria ahead through a free kick in the 22nd minute of the tie at the newly refurbished Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
With a goal down, the Tanzanians then fortified their backline and ensured they kept the host at bay before the referee sounded her whistle for the break.
In the 52nd minute of the tie, Ajibade confidently dribbled her marker and calmly slotted into the far corner for Nigeria’s second goal.
Ajibade grabbed a brace five minutes later as Nigeria heads to Tanzania with three goals advantage.
The Tanzanians will host the second leg on September 30.
The winner of the tie over two legs will face either Morocco or Senegal in the next round of the qualifiers.
Two teams will emerge from the African qualifiers to represent the continent at the competition, which is scheduled for August 5 to 24, 2018 in France.
