Two women, Saapanatu Mohammed, 50, and Mariam Abudullahi, 26, have been arraigned before a Gwagwalada Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged misplacement of goods valued at N2.2 million.
The prosecution counsel, Dabo Yakubu, told the court that Mohammed and Abudullahi were being charged with criminal misappropriation.
Yakubu said on July 4, a resident of Sokoto State, Rabi Sani, sent a cargo of two bags containing food stuff, drugs and other valuable items to Saudi Arabia.
He said the items, which were sent through Ethiopian Airline, successfully arrived at the Jidah International Airport but were misplaced by the defendants.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the Provisions of Section 309 of the Penal Code.
Meanwhile, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Counsel for the first defendant, A.O. Olori-aje prayed the court to admit his client to bail in the most liberal terms.
He said that the constitution presumed every accused person to be innocent until otherwise proven.
Also addressing the court, counsel for the second defendant, Albert Ad’ejembi urged the court to grant his client bail.
He promised that his client would not jump bail or interfere with the investigation of the matter.
The Chief Magistrate, Aliyu Shafa admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N500,000 each, with one surety each in like sum.
Shafa ordered that the sureties must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.
He adjourned the case to Sept. 9 for hearing.
