Nemesis on Tuesday caught up with one Josiah Apoi and Oghenochuko Lucky while robbing their victims along Olomu Street in Warri, Delta State.
Detectives from ‘B’ Division, Warri swooped on the gang after receiving information that the gang had started operating.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Celestina Kalu, at the command headquarters in Asaba, said the team promptly responded and proceeded to the area.
Kalu said: “They met the robbers in action and arrested one Josiah Apoi of Iyara Street, Warri while others escaped.”
According to her, the suspect confessed to the crime and took the patrol team to their hideout, where one other gang member, Oghenochuko Lucky, was arrested.
“Upon search two locally made pistol guns and three cartridges were recovered,” Kalu said.
She said investigation and effort to track down other members have been intensified, Kalu also narrated how a patrol team from Effurun Division received information that some hoodlums operating with Volkswagen Vento car were chasing one unidentified man after withdrawing money.
She said: “On receipt of the information the Anti-Crime patrol team who were already on stop and search duty along the road sighted pursued the hoodlums who saw the team and subsequently abandoned their vehicle and escaped.”
She listed the items recovered to include one cut to size double barrel gun, with 13 live cartridges, one single barrel gun, five expended cartridges, a set of plate No. AR 237 WWR, one Volkswagen Vento car without registration number.
“Efforts are on to track down the fleeing suspects,” Kalu said.
