Ifako, Ovwian Aladja axis of Delta State on Sunday experienced sporadic shootings between men of the Delta State Police Command and a notorious cult group.
Two of cultists were killed in the shootout.
The locality, which harbours the state’s Steel Company, The Eagle Online gathered, has been under siege in the hand of this notorious group that constantly engaged rival groups, resulting in mayhem.
Besides, the group was identified to have led several criminal operations in the locality.
The state police command’s spokesperson, Tina Kalu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said the suspects recently killed a 22-year-old man.
According to Kalu, they operate on commercial motorbikes, popularly, called Okada.
Kalu added: “When our men arrived the scene of the murder, they discovered that the deceased suspect was fingered as the leader of the cult group that shot dead a 22-year-old young man, Mr. Ugwetor Okpaka, on February 16 at Ifako Road, Ovwian Aladja.”
She added that another suspected cultist, a 25-year-old man, one Shedrack Sume, was equally shot dead by some rival cultists, who attacked his group on motorbike.
The image maker said Sume died three days after when detectives stormed his hideout at DEC town, in the same Ovwian-Aladja, where one of the rival cultists was strategizing on how to cause mayhem in the community.
“The cultists on sighting the police opened fire on them and in the ensuing gun duel, two of the cultists were gunned down while others escaped with bullet wounds,” she said.
One locally made pistol, according to Kalu, and two live cartridges were recovered from the hoodlums.
She added: “Our men are still on the trail of other fleeing members.”
