A Makurdi Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday ordered the remand of two brothers, Victor Vandehemen and Yua Vandehemen at the Correctional Centre, Makurdi, for allegedly beating a 20-year-old man, Mson Aondohemba to death.
The duo who live at Gurgun Community, Shange-Tiev in Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue, were charged with criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.
The Magistrate, Ajuma Igama, however, did not take the plea of the defendants for want of jurisdiction.
Igama adjourned the matter until July 10 for further mention.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Edward Derfa, told the court that Joseph Tyokor of Gurgun Community reported the matter at Tse-Agberagba Police station on May 18.
“According to the complainant, the defendants conspired with some persons still at large to attack the deceased.
“They beat the deceased and stoned him to death alleging that he stole a Bajaj motorcycle.
“The complainant further said that the attackers set the deceased body ablaze,” the prosecutor told the court.
He said the defendants were arrested during a police investigation while others are still at large.
Derfa said their offences contravened Sections 97 and 222 of the penal code laws of Benue, 2004.
