Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Monday joined a list of a select group of international statesmen invited by Abdallah Gul, the President of Turkey, to commemorate 28 years of the founding of Oxford University’s Centre for Islamic Studies.
Founded in 1985, the centre received a grant of the Royal Charter by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth of England as part of its efforts to promote dialogue and understanding between the East and West.
Apart from creating understanding of Muslim societies and culture, the United Kingdom based Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies in Turkey is also committed to developing academic work of the highest quality.
President Abdallah Gul of Turkey said he, as a Trustee of the Centre, invited the former Vice President of Nigeria as one of the friends of the Oxford Centre around the world.
