Information reaching The Eagle Online is that the Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Uche Secondus, will run the affairs of the party until March when a Special Convention will take place to elect a substantive national chairman.
The development is coming in the wake of the resignation of the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur.
A highly dependable source in the party told The Eagle Online on Thursday that the top hierarchy has agreed that Tukur’s replacement should be elected in March.
Tukur, whose resignation will be confirmed officially in another few hours, had earlier insisted he was yet to turn in his resignation letter.
But as first exclusively reported by The Eagle Online on Wednesday, Tukur handed his resignation letter to President Goodluck Jonathan after his valedictory meeting with the members of the National Working Committee earlier in the day.
It was after this that the President met with members of the party’s National Caucus.
A meeting of the governors elected on the platform of the party then followed and then that of the Board of Trustees.
All the meetings took place in the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
In the hierarchy of the NWC of the PDP, Secondus is next to Tukur.
The top shots of the party, under the Board of Trustees and the National Caucus, have agreed that the election of a substantive chairman should be held in March.
No date has, however, been chosen in March.
Meanwhile, the meeting of the National Executive Committee of the PDP is expected to commence anytime soon, The Eagle Online can report.
This follows the conclusion of the early morning engagements of Jonathan, who is expected to attend the meeting.
It was learnt that Jonathan will head in the direction of the National Secretariat of the party at Wadata Plaza, Abuja, any moment from now.
It is at the meeting that the resignation of Tukur will be ratified and then made public.
