Habu Fari, the Chief of Staff to the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, has been fired over his face-off with the National Secretary of the party and former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola.
Fari was fired on Tuesday.
His sack letter was signed by Tukur, with a directive to hand over all the party’s property in his possession to the party’s secretariat.
Fari was chastised for considering himself as being at par with elected party officials and for exchange of correspondences with individuals and corporate organisations on behalf of the party without authorisation.
The letter reads in part: “In view of this and in the interest of our party, you are hereby relieved of your position and you should hand over all the party properties in your possession.”
The rift blew into the open when corresponmdeces between Oyinlola and Fari became public.
Oyinlola had complained that Fari had taken over the functions of his office.
The former governor thus warned Fari, in several correspondences, to keep off the duties of his office.
But Fari would hear none of that.
He told Oyinlola, also through correspondences, that Tukur was fully aware and sanctioned all his actions.
He equally told Oyinlola that no section of the party’s constitution forbids Tukur from asking him to write to any member of the party.
The party had on Tuesday admitted that there was an internal dispute threatening its peace.
The PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, had said on Tuesday: “In the past few days, there were reports of divisions or problems between Alhaji Habu Fari, the Chief of Staff to the National Chairman, and the National Secretary, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, over administrative matters.
“We admit that we made mistakes but we have resolved the matter amicably. We have learnt our lessons and we will not allow it to happen again. We will not allow millions of Nigerians and the people who elected us to be so embarrassed again
“We have accepted where we went wrong and it has made us more united than before. There is no division in the NWC because we are all united under the leadership of the chairman and the direction of President Goodluck Jonathan.”
