The National and State Assembly Elections Petitions Tribunal sitting in Umuahia, Abia State has nullified the election of Orji Kanu as the representative of Abia North Senatorial District.
The Tribunal, headed by Justice Cornelius Adetayo, which gave the judgement on Monday, ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct a supplementary election within 90 days in eight wards in Arochukwu Local Government Area and several polling units in Ohafia and Isukwuato LGAs, where votes were cancelled during the election earlier in the year.
The judgement was sequel to the challenge of Kalu’s election by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the poll, Mao Ohuabunwa.
The PDP candidate said Kalu, who had since emerged as the Senate Chief Whip, was faulty on several grounds.
Kalu was the candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the election.
