A lack lustre performance by the Coach John Obuh-led Flying Eagles condemned them to a 0-2 defeat against the U-20 national team of Mexico last night at the Toulon invitational tournament in France.
The Mexicans dominated the opening half as they mesmerised the Nigerian defence on many occasions.
The Flying Eagles had goalkeeper Okani to thank for keeping the rampaging Mexicans at bay.
Goalkeeper Okani was called to action in the 8th minute when he parried a close shot over the bar.
He was also at the mercy of the Mexicans when he saved a goal bound shot in the 16th minute.
The sporadic attack on the Flying Eagles paid off positively for the Mexicans when they scored the first goal off a defensive blunder in the 28th minute.
The Mexicans continued to control the proceedings and could have doubled the tally but for good saves made by Flying Eagles goalkeeper Okani.
What could have been the leveller for Nigeria was fluffed in the last minute of the half by Edafe Egbedi, with only the goalkeeper to beat.
The Flying Eagles returned for the second half with renewed strength to find an early goal but their attempts were futile.
The Mexicans also made several incursions into the Flying Eagles vital area.
They eventually succeeded during one of those attempts as they grabbed the second goal nine minutes from time to seal their first victory at the tournament.
The match was the Flying Eagles first match at Toulon invitational tournament.
