The Tor Tiv, Prof. James Ayatse, has appealed to the Federal Government to build an ultra-modern market in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue.
This was contained in a statement signed by his Media Assistant, Freddie Adamgbe and issued to newsmen on Wednesday in Makurdi.
According to the statement, the Tor Tiv made the call during a sympathy visit on the traders of the Gboko main market who were affected by the September 29, inferno.
He expressed sadness that the market was not well planned with modern fire service and other gadgets that would enable people tackle fire incidence.
He also promised to prevail on relevant authorities as well as critical stakeholders on the need to decongest the market to avoid further fire incidence.
He said: “I feel pained by the hardship which the traders are passing through but I have the hope that God will replenish them hundred folds.”
Earlier, the Gboko LGA chairperson, Becky Orpin, commended the Tor Tiv for sympathising with the traders, urging him to apply his royal influence to cause relevant authorities to decongest the market and provide facilities to curb future disaster.
In their separate comments, the Tor Jemgbagh, Chief David Afaityo and Chairman of the Market Traders Association, Matthew Amuche, both appreciated the Royal Father for the visit.
