On Friday, Tony O. Elumelu received a Lifetime Africa Achievement Prize for Sustainable Development in Africa at an award ceremony in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The prize is awarded by the Millennium Excellence Foundation to celebrate those global personalities “whose equals are hard to find on the continent and even the world”.
It is to serve as recognition for their altruistic work toward the empowerment of the African continent.
Heads of States, Ministers of States, Corporate Africa and the Global Media converged on Awka Ibom State in recognition of the commitment of the honourees to achieving sustained economic growth and development for Africa.
Others honoured alongside Elumelu included President Goodluck Jonathan; His Royal Majesty, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II of Ghana; Carlos Lopes, the Chair of the United Nations Economic Committee on Africa; and Donald Kaberuka, the President of the African Development Bank.
Other honourees were Jay Naidoo, the Chair of the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition; Folorunsho Alakija, Founder of Famfa Oil; and Tidjane Thiam, the CEO of Prudential Plc.
