Tombim Tennis Open: Menezes, Markus progress to semis

Brazilian Joao Menezes and Swedish Eriksson Markus on Thursday outclassed their opponents to progress to the semifinals of the International Tennis Federation pro-circuit tournament, tagged “Tombim Tennis Open’’ in Abuja.
Menezes dispatched promising Austrian, Neuchrist Maximilian 6-4, 6-4 in the centre court of the National Stadium.
The Brazilian, who had beaten Indian Arian Goveas 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the round of 16 to get to the quarter-finals proved indomitable with his brilliant serves and smashes.
At court 1, Swedish Eriksson Markus, seeded one, humbled a Dutch seeded five, Jelle Sels 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 to advance to the semi-finals.
Markus had beaten Klagou of Benin 7(7)-6(3), 3-6, 6-4 in the round of 16 to stay alive to the quarter-finals.
NAN reports that the International Tennis Federation pro-circuit tournament began on April 16 to end on April 22.
