An Akure Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State on Monday remanded three suspects in Olokuta Prison over the alleged kidnapping of an 82-year-old woman.
The accused persons are Omonojo Sunday, 30; Ogunbayo Dapo, 31; and Tunde Adu, 34.
The magistrate, Folashade Ajayi, ordered that the three accused persons be remanded pending the receipt of legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution in the Ministry of Justice.
Earlier, the police prosecutor, Corporal Adebayo Aderinde, had told the court that the suspects conspired with two others, now at large, to kidnap Olamodesi Akindeju.
Aderinde said the suspects, who were armed with cut-to-size locally made double-barrel gun, demanded a ransom of N50 million from the family of the octogenarian.
Aderinde said the suspects used a Toyota Carina II car to kidnap her and took her to Kajola Palm Plantation Farm in Okitipupa Local Government Area of the state.
He said they unlawfully detained her for seven days against her wish.
The prosecutor said the accused held her hostage until a ransom of N3.1 million was paid to them by her family.
He said that the accused committed the offence on January 8 at about 9pm at 10, Surulere Street, Igbotako, Okitipupa Local Government Area of the state.
The prosecutor stated that the offence was contrary to and punishable under Sections 5(1) and 2(1) (a) (b) of Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Abduction Law of Ondo State, 2010.
The case was adjourned till March 27.
