Three policemen attached to the Igando Police Station of the Lagos State Police Command have been ordered arrested for killing two men who were on their way to work early in the morning, ostensibly for refusing to part with a bribe, and then labelling them as armed robbers.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command, Yakubu Alkali, ordered the arrest of three policemen.
It was learnt that the policemen had stopped the two men, who were riding on a motorbike at a road block, demanding for money.
When they refused to part with any money, one of the policemen shot them from the back.
The bullet reportedly pierced through the one sitting at the back and entered into the man in charge of the motorbike.
He man at the back was reported to have died on the spot while the rider was seriously wounded.
However, in the bid to cover up their nefarious act, the policemen reportedly took the man who was alive to their station and shot him dead there.
When one of the co-workers of the men called their mobile phones, one of the policemen picked the call, requested for details of the place where the men worked – which was given as Multiple Covenant Investment Limited – and then led a team there to arrest five other workers of the company.
They then labelled all of them as armed robbers.
On the intervention of the owner of Multiple Covenant Investment Limited, Wale Fadikun, the three policemen were summoned by the Area Commander, Area ‘M,’ Idimu, Ibrahim Sani Kaoje, an Assistant Commissioner of Police.
At Area M, the policemen told another story: that it was armed robbers who shot the two men.
It was at this stage that the case was ordered transferred to the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja from where Alkali ordered that they should be detained pending the conclusion of investigation.
The State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba, is handling the case.
