Three accused persons – Kelvin Ezeiegbe, Frank Azuekor and Michael Omonigho – appeared before an Abuja Federal High Court for alleged kidnap of Chief Mike Ozekhome.
The accused persons were arraigned on a 13-count charge of conspiracy, kidnapping, terrorism, inciting persons to commit terrorism, recruitment and abetting escape, among others.
They were also charged with kidnapping Ozekhome, a constitutional lawyer, on August 23, 2013 in Delta State and killing several security operatives who were on lawful duty.
The offences contravened Section 17 of Terrorism Prevention Act 2011, as amended.
Omonigho, the third accused, was charged with providing support for terrorists and failure to disclose terrorism information to law enforcement agencies.
The offence contravened Section 8 (1) (b) of the Terrorism Prevention Act 2011, as amended.
They pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Prosecuting Counsel, Chioma Onuegbu, urged the court to remand the accused persons in prison custody pending the hearing of the suit.
The Counsel to the accused, Bala Dakum, applied for the bail of the accused persons.
Justice Ademola Ademola said that the application was not in line with the Criminal Procedure Rule of the court.
Ademola ordered that the accused persons be remanded in SSS custody and be produced in court on the next adjourned date.
Ademola adjourned the case until July 1 for hearing.
