Three artisans appeared before a Yaba Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Thursday for allegedly defiling a 12-year-old girl.
Shaibu Siaka, 29; John Obah, 30; and Vincent Amaechi, 28, who reside in Bariga and Shomolu areas of Lagos, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and child rape.
The prosecutor, ASP Felix Ifijen, told the court that the accused committed the offence on several occasions within the last quarter of 2013.
Ifijen said that the accused took advantage of the 12-year-old girl when she was out of her guardian’s sight.
He said: “The defendants had sexual intercourse with the minor several times within the last quarter of 2013.
“They capitalised on her poor guardianship to exploit her.”
Ifijen said that the matter was brought to the notice of the police after it was discovered that the minor was pregnant.
The accused denied the charges.
The prosecutor explained that the offence contravened the Criminal Code of Lagos State, 2011.
The Chief Magistrate, Yewande Aje-Afunwa, granted them bail each for N250,000 and two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to February 19.
