Thousands of women in Purdah have defied the scorching sunlight in the ancient city of Katsina to welcome President Muhammadu Buhari who came to the city to campaign for his re-election.
The State Government has earlier mobilised the people to show solidarity and support for the president, who hails from Daura, in the state.
The women sat on the major streets of the capital city and the Muhammadu Dikko stadium, the venue of the rally, and patiently waited for the president.
Some of them told the News Agency of Nigeria that they were ready to wait in the sun until the end of the campaign programme.
One of them, Hajiya Binta Mohammad, said that they were supporting Buhari to secure the future of their children.
On her part, the APC woman Leader in the state, Hajiya Safiya Daura, said that they had mobilised women to give President Buhari a rousing welcome to the state.
She said: “We are supporting President Buhari because his policies have impacted on women positively in many ways.
“In the last four years, the APC administration has introduced some programmes that assisted women to become economically self-reliant.
“The Katsina State Government is ready to give all the necessary support and assistance for the re-election campaign of President Buhari.”
