Kwara State male football Team lost 0-2 to Team Enugu in their Group B second match at the ongoing 18th National Sports Festival holding in Lagos State.
Team Enugu capitalised on a defensive blunder to register the first goal in the 27th minute and made it two in the 77th minute after wasting many begging chances.
Nurudeen Ibrahim of Team Kwara was seriously injured in the dying minute of the encounter and was revived by the medical team.
He was rushed to the hospital for further treatment.
He was, however, discharged after about 30 minutes.
Kwara will play Osun State in the next match on Saturday.
In the other matches played on Thursday in the Group, Kwara played goalless against Team Cross River, Team Osun came from a goal down to beat Zamfara 2-1 while Gombe and Enugu settled for a goalless draw.
Meanwhile, Mayomi Oyelese of Team Kwara sent out the Festival’s defending champion, Seun Oluyide of Team Oyo in the female chess game to advance to the next stage.
In another development, the Kwara State Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Hajia Ramat Adesina Abaya, has praised the spirit of sportsmanship and discipline exhibited by the state’s athletes.
Hajia Ramat in an interview with our reporter in Lagos, expressed optimism that the athletes would do well in their various events.
She reiterated the commitment of the state government to reward excellence and urged Kwarans to continue to pray for the success of Team Kwara.
