The Kano State Task Force Committee on Fake and Counterfeit Drugs says it has has confiscated fake drugs worth N150 million.
The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran, said this on Wednesday while inspecting the drugs at the government warehouse in Kano.
Labaran said that the drugs were found in one of the residential houses located on Abeokuta Road in the Sabon Gari area, following a tip-off.
He said that the fake drugs were re-labelled and with fake expiry date reading 2014.
“Some of the fake drugs include patina, ampiclox and ampicillin which would have been taken to the Sabon Gari Market for distribution,” he said.
Labaran, who expressed concern over the increasing rate of youths engaged in drug abuse, restated the state government’s commitment towards checking the ugly trend.
He said: “The state government is fully committed toward checking the circulation of fake and adulterated drugs among the people in the state.”
The commissioner called on the people of the state to join the government in the fight against drug abuse, especially among the youths and other vulnerable groups in the society.
He commended the task force committee for its efforts to rid the state of fake and adulterated drugs.
The commissioner was accompanied to the warehouse by the task force committee Chairman, Alhaji Ali Adamu.
