We trust this message finds you well. Open Alliance, a coalition of civil society organizations working to improve openness and accountability in government, is writing to convey our concerns regarding the arrest and recent removal of Mr. Wale Adedayo, the former Chairman of Ijebu-East Local Government Area, Ogun State, from office. He was arrested on Monday, 25 September 2023, based on a petition written against him by the Ogun state government after being impeached on September 16, and we feel compelled to voice our concerns.
The embattled Chairman had recently raised some allegations about the Governor Dapo Abiodun-led administration.
The presentation of the “breakdown of the fund released to Local Governments in Ogun for the Execution of Developmental Projects Between Year 2020 to date” by the Chief Economic Adviser, Dapo Okubadejo, along with the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, further blew the wind that clearly uncovered their concealed rump. When I first read the curriculum vitae of Okubadejo, I had tremendous professional respect for him, but this show of charade engaged in to protect the government mirrors unprofessionalism and perfidiousness to the public. As an Accountant and Auditor of over 35 years in practice, I feel ashamed of the professional conducts of both Okubadejo, the Accountant General, who was at the press conference, and the previous administration headed by a Chartered Accountant for failure to establish laws, set standards that would have prevented this sham and set a tone at the top that it is haram to tamper with local government source of revenues and their federal allocations.
The DSS had on Friday detained Adedayo at its Abeokuta Office when he honoured an invitation by the Secret Service
The caller, Adedunola Adele, who happened to be my old-time friend, actually called to express his bitterness over what he observed in Abeokuta regarding one of Nigeria’s governors, Prince Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State.
His detention comes after he met with the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, at the office of the DSS on Friday
Seven Councillors, led by their leader, Fasheyi Adesuji, from Itele Ward 7, had amid tight security on Thursday morning suspended Adedayo.
This was borne out of the steady, consistent and visible growth in both the infrastructural and revenue growth of the local government within the three months of his administration.
Oguntayo, who spoke during a reception to mark his 25th year on the throne as the Ajalorun of Ijebu Ife, urged the electorates in the local government to vote for Adedayo, given his sterling qualities, which the monarch affirmed remains assets for any credible politician or political party
Lawal made his position known in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Wale Adedayo
Parents need to watch out for the kind of friends their children keep. You also need to monitor them, indirectly, as they grow up, especially the young adults among them
Adedayo in a message to his colleagues and friends on Friday, said the lecture series will be “our humble contribution to the growth of Nigeria’s young democracy”
So, any little sign of light proving the end of the tunnel is here, we rush there with joy. But in the case of this Jonathan’s CONference, my sincere apologies to Tinubu. He got it right
