Soon afterwards, I overheard someone say now is the time for my immediate past dean at the LASU School of Communication, Prof. Rotimi Olatunji. I was keen on hearing Prof. Olatunji’s reaction. I was really anxious hoping seriously he would like to do it so we can sit down to organise our home front with all the credible and smart experts and take time to formulate a winning formula. I was so confident he would   immediately earn the support of everyone at LASUSOC. I also believe the man with the ceaselessly rising profile would clinch the UNIOSUN ticket.

Sources within the university told The Eagle Online that a meeting is being arranged for May 17, 2021 to consider the possible elongation of the tenure of the incumbent acting VC, though it is unclear if this would not be in the breach of the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Amendment Act of 2003.

A brief recap of the rumpus. On August 12, 2020, the UNILAG Governing Council, then under the headship of Dr. Wale Babalakin (SAN), in a majority vote, at a decisive meeting of the body, relieved the just reinstated VC of his appointment (then), following allegations of abuse of office, financial recklessness and many infractions in award of contracts. This action, expectedly, did not go down well with Prof. Ogundipe and as such immediately headed to court to contest the Governing Council’s decision.

The directive was handed down by the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu in a statement signed by his Director of Press and Public Relations, Ben Goong and made available to newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday.
