In a short interaction with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the new Ruler of Abu Dhabi and President of the UAE during a condolence visit to the Presidential Palace Friday, President Buhari press statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu expressed his condolences and that of Nigeria on the demise of the late President Sheikh Khalifah and congratulated the new President on his election.

In a condolence message to the government and people of the UAE issued by his Media Office at the weekend in Abuja, Asiwaju Tinubu said as president from 2004 until his death, “Sheikh Khalifa strategically guided the UAE government toward balanced and sustainable development in order to ensure the prosperity of his people.”

President Buhari’s condolence is contained in a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu said that “it’s impossible to write about the social and economic transformation of the UAE without recognition of the significant and immeasurable contributions of the deceased to the progress of the country today.’’

If there were any remaining doubts about COVID-19 racism, these countries shed it and showed the world they could not help wearing bigotry on their sleeve. Countries that were rightly opposed to labelling COVID-19 the “China virus”, were quick to target Africa, which is not the original source of the new variant, for detecting it among in-bound travellers and quickly reporting it.
