Elumelu made the commitment after presenting 50 beneficiaries of the TEF Entrepreneurship Programme to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa
The 2018 cohort includes an additional 250 entrepreneurs to the standard selection of 1,000, thanks to a $1 million partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross to support 200 entrepreneurs in conflict and fragile zones of Nigeria (the North East where the Boko Haram scourge is felt and the Niger Delta region, which suffers environmental degradation from oil spillage), a $200,000 agreement with the United Nations Development Programme to support 40 pan-African entrepreneurs, and a $50,000 partnership with Indorama to support 10 Nigerians.
Emulelu, a former Managing Director of United Bank for Africa Plc, said this through a tele-conference coordinated at the Business Branch of UBA, Bank Road, Bauchi.
The chairman of the foundation, Tony Elumelu, disclosed this through a live-streaming Facebook interaction with prospective applicants in Jalingo.
The award was conferred on Elumelu in recognition of his outstanding work in promoting Entrepreneurship on the continent of Africa and across the globe
Oliver Alawuba, the Chief Executive Officer, Anglophone UBA Group, stated this at the 2017 Tony Elumelu Foundation African Journalism Fellowship and 3rd Annual TEF Entrepreneurship Forum in Lagos.
This is the first year the invitation-only Forum is open to non-TEF entrepreneurs and will allow SMEs from across Africa to attend and form networks, share knowledge, connect with investors, link with corporate supply chains and influence policy makers and business leaders in attendance.
Through this support, which will benefit TEF entrepreneurs across the continent, the two organisations will help entrepreneurs effectively use ICT to modernise their businesses, enrich their offerings and reach new customers.

The conference will bring together around 500 high level financial professionals from across Africa
Elumelu said at the event that the fastest way to develop the African continent was by empowering the youths to become entrepreneurs.
Successful applicants will join the third cycle of the TEF Entrepreneurship Programme, TEF’s 10-year, $100 million commitment to train, mentor and fund 10,000 African entrepreneurs in every African country
