The President lauded Sylva for years of service to his state, Bayelsa, and the country at large, having variously been member of the State House of Assembly in old Rivers State, Special Assistant to a former Minister of Petroleum, Governor of Bayelsa, and now, Minister of State, Petroleum Resources.

Gbajabiamila particularly called out the Minister of State, Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva; Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed; Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele; and the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (formerly Group Managing Director of the defunct Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation), Melee Kyari; as well as the Managing Director of Petroleum Pipeline Marketing Company, Isiaku Abdullahi, among others.

In his opening remarks at the stakeholders’ consultation on draft regulations on implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act Wednesday in Abuja, the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva said that stakeholders in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry “must, in designing any regulation, put in focus how we can balance the energy base load for Nigeria so that we will not be left behind in the energy transition train while still harnessing our rich natural hydrocarbon reserves.”

Sylva said this on Tuesday while addressing State House correspondents after a meeting with the President where he presented CEOs of two new agencies under his ministry: the Nigerian Upstream Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Downstream and Midstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority at the Presidential Villa.
