Making his long-awaited return from a fourth back surgery – it was his first tournament for 301 days since pulling out the Dubai Desert Classic in February – Woods posted three sub-70 rounds at the Albany Club in the Bahamas to finish in a tie for ninth place in the 18-man field.

Woods is serving as assistant captain for the US in the Presidents Cup this weekend and was asked at a press conference on Tuesday if he could envisage a scenario where he did not return as a player.

After finishing in 10th place at the Wyndham Championship last summer, Woods announced that he would undergo surgery in a bid to cure a long-standing back problem but despite hopes of being back in June, the former world number one was forced to put off a comeback

In a rare and extensive interview with Time magazine, Woods also shared the same sentiments about his future that he did at the tournament he is hosting in the Bahamas. He still wants to play golf at the highest level, though he is resigned that it might not happen if the nerve damage in his back doesn’t allow for it
