Sunday Adeleye, Technical Director of the Ibrahim Gusau-led faction of Athletics Federation of Nigeria on Wednesday said Nigeria has more than enough athletes to represent her during the Olympic Games.

Briefing newsmen after the inspection, Adeleye said that they were impressed with the level of readiness as well as the form of the routes mapped out for the race.
The mostly home-based athletes, who elected the former Police Sergeant as their representative in 2017, accuse him of not fighting for their interest on the board as his appointment by the federation’s President,Ibrahim Gusau, as the technical director of the AFN has led to a conflict of interest.
Sunday Adeleye, AFN Technical Director, told the News Agency of Nigeria, that the decision followed an emergency meeting of the board of the AFN regarding the protest.
Adeleye told the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday in Abuja that the federation hoped to surpass its feat in the last edition in South Africa and would do it “convincingly’’.
Adeleye told newsmen in Abuja that the federation went to the 2018 Commonwealth Games held in the Australian city with young athletes so as to expose them to international competitions.
Adeleye made this known while responding from Gold Coast, Australia, to questions on Nigeria’s performance at the games from the News Agency of Nigeria Abuja on Sunday.
Sunday Adeleye, the AFN Technical Director, in a list made available to the media, said the athletes are made up of 10 foreign-based and 27 home-based athletes.
Adeleye made the assertion on Thursday at the National Stadium, Abuja venue of Commonwealth Games trials, saying that each of the events would be judged with the AFN standards.
The Technical Director of AFN, Sunday Adeleye, gave the assurance in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Saturday in Abuja as the two-day All-Comers Athletics Championship ended on Saturday.
Adeleye said Ibrahim Gusau, the federation’s President, had tasked the board to work hard toward ensuring victory in every competition.
Jasper Adekunle, 100 metres female athlete, said: “we need someone that can really represent the interest of athletes for now and we have spoken today.”
Also speaking, Solomon Igbelowowa, the Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Teachers in the state, said he did not expect that any faction of the labour movement would refuse to join the strike
