A Federal lawmaker, Sen. Shehu Sani, has condemned the arrest and detention of Premium Times reporter, Samuel Ogundipe, by the Nigeria Police Force.

Sani said this when he fielded questions from newsmen at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja after a meeting with the party’s National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
He said consultations were still ongoing with regard to the future of the party.
Members of Akida and Restoration groups of the All Progressive Congress in Kaduna State on Friday announced their withdrawal from the party.
This was even as the Senate summoned the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, to appear before plenary and explain the constitutional basis for the controversial Executive order No. 066 and other Executive orders which have been issued by President Muhammadu Buhari in clear usurpation of the law making function of the National Assembly.
Sani, who represents Kaduna Central Senatorial District at the Senate, said in a statement on Monday in Abuja that it was tragic and unfortunate that people were being killed daily in Nigeria.
Sani, who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts, gave this advice in a statement on Saturday.
According to him, it is a report that contains details of alleged inhuman and degrading treatments of women in the Northeast IDPs camps.
The group, known as APC Akida, in a statement in Kaduna on Friday said it has concluded a review of the state of the party and governance issues in the state and the nation, and was considering leaving the party they worked hard to put in place.
They said that information available to them indicated that the state government was considering the option of loan from the banks after the Senate refused to approve 350 million dollar loan for it.
Sani told the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday in Abuja that senators from the state supported the rejection of the request.
Sani gave this advice in a statement issued by his Special Assistant (Media), Abdulsamad Chima-Amadi, made available to the News Agency of Nigeria in Kaduna on Sunday.
Speaking in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, as Guest Speaker at the 5th Olalekan Olomide Platform for Development, held at the Nigerian Union of Journalists secretariat Iyaganku, Ibadan, Sani said the revelation should also cover all those working in the Presidential Villa.
Sani made the call while speaking with newsmen on Tuesday in Abuja.
Sani, who called for the scrapping of the N13.5 million monthly running cost for senators, added that there is little accountability about how the money is spent.
Abdullahi dismissed any insinuations that Sani’s colleague were unhappy with him and said if people had looked critically at the budget of the National Assembly, which has since been made public, they would have seen that various line items like traveling, medicals, consultancy and the rest were captured in the budget and they were the funds divided for each senator’s use.
The Senate also called for peaceful coexistence among Nigerians, irrespective of religious differences.
The condemnation and appeal followed the adoption of a Point of Order raised by Senator Shehu Sani at plenary.
Sani said, the visit, was with a view to getting to the bottom of the issue surrounding the reported case of missing N36 million from the JAMB office in Makurdi, Benue.
