Browsing: Rule of Law

I have chosen to write this letter to Your Excellency for the enviable role that your country plays as champion of Democracy and the Rule of Law. I am also writing you as Nigeria’s international development partner working together to deepen and strengthen our democracy as well as to help in the transformation of our economies and societies for the better.

It is unfortunate that the most important statement made so far at the ongoing Annual Conference of the Nigeria Bar Association, an outright derogation of the supremacy of the rule of law, has not yet generated any coherent response from either the Bar or the Bench.

Frontline Peoples Democratic Party presidential aspirant, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), and the Chairman of the Edo State chapter of the party, Chief Dan Orbih, have faulted the statement credited to President Muhammadu Buhari that his All Progressives Congress-led government “will not sacrifice national security for the rule of law.”

The Peoples Democratic Party has told President Muhammadu Buhari that his statement claiming that the rule of law will become secondary to his whims and self-determined “national interest” is strange to Nigeria’s laws and completely unacceptable.
