The Lagos State Government has given a seven-day ultimatum to traders, motorists, taxi operators, commercial bus operators, artisans and the public to abate all forms of activities that escalate traffic gridlocks in the metropolis or face the law.

The Chief Executive Officer of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, AIG Chris Olakpe (retd), who disclosed this after a tour of notable traffic prone areas of the state in company of other top hierarchy of the Agency, including the General Manager, Olawale Musa, said the development was part of series of actions and concerted efforts taken to tackle the traffic gridlock headlong across the State.
Addressing the specially-assembled traffic officers of the Agency on Thursday, LASTMA’s General Manager, Olawale Musa, said in view of the strategic importance of the bridge to the economy of Lagos and Nigeria in general, the operation to control traffic during the closure would be treated as a major national assignment and a call to service
Tagged: “Operation Restore Sanity On Lagos Roads,” the exercise will be carried out from early hours of Friday to Monday by 1.000 policemen, 500 officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, 100 officers of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, 120 officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps and 250 personnel of the Nigerian Military, including Army, Air Force and the Navy.

The closure, according to government, was as a result of expert advice by the State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure that the integrity of a section of the bridge was in doubt, and therefore needed to be closed down for repairs.
Speaking during a joint enforcement carried out in the axis by LASTMA and the Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command, the General Manager of the Agency, Olawale Musa, said the State Government had been inundated with several reports of motorists driving against traffic in the corridor, and that it would not allow such illegality to continue.
