The 22 oil workers arrested by officials of the Rivers State Government have been freed, the News Agency of Nigeria is reporting.
The strike is aimed at also making the government evolve new strategies to combat pipeline vandalisation and crude oil theft that have impacted negatively on the nation’s economy and employment in the country
Speaking against the backdrop of a deadline handed down by the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation to some agencies in the oil and gas industry, the workers said that if the government insists on imposing the IPPIS and its several impediments and hardship on the personnel records and payroll system in the oil and gas industry, they will not hesitate to reciprocate with an unfathomable industrial crisis
They also warned Oando Nigeria Plc, the prospective buyer of the oil blocks, not to venture into conclusion of acquisition process until ConocoPhillips finally and conclusively settles all labour issues
The workers had last week threatened a showdown should the company fail to renege on its plan to sack them without any benefits and proper payment of their accumulated salary arrears
