The Nigerian forward has been a big hit since signing on loan from Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua in January, scoring five goals and creating one assist in all competitions.

The Red Devils became the first side to secure their place in Sunday’s draw as they edged past the Canaries, who were dreaming of Wembley on their first quarterfinal appearance since 1991-92.

The on-loan forward hit the back of the net along with Marcus Rashford, who got a brace for Team Paul Pogba against Bruno Fernandes led side.

Eyebrows were raised when United wrapped up a temporary agreement with Shanghai Greenland Shenhua for Ighalo in January but the 30-year-old seized his opportunity with both hands, racking up four goals and an assist in his opening eight appearances.

Ighalo was a surprise addition for United on Deadline Day, as the Red Devils scrambled to find a striker to replace Marcus Rashford, while the Englishman was injured.

The Nigerian striker was due to return to parent club Shanghai Shenhua at the end of last week, but United made the move to keep the forward at Old Trafford until January 2021.

The Nigerian striker was an instant hit after arriving from Shanghai Greenland Shenhua at the end of the winter transfer window but that deal was due to expire on the final day of May.

The extension comes after problems over the player’s return to China convinced the Chinese Super League club – who will receive a total of £10.5 million, with the £6 million loan fee and £130,000-a-week salary combined – to let him stay at Old Trafford.
